What the Anti-Offshoring Bill Means to Call Center Philippines

New York State Democrat Charles Schumer’s Anti-Offshoring bill designed to keep American companies from outsourcing call center jobs to foreign companies like India and Philippines is certainly a cause for alarm to lowly agents like me.

Philippine call center

Call Center Philippines jobs have greatly contributed to the country’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product), amounting to 12 percent. American companies have turned to outsourcing to reduce cost of overhead that can mean savings of up to 30 percent. Now, with the recession, jobs in the states have been dwindling and the American citizens are clamoring for jobs. Government leaders are now enacting laws to bring back jobs they’ve taken for granted. The Arizona law that caused fears of racial profiling will affect Mexicans that have for years been doing the menial jobs nobody wanted to do.

For now, the bill is still a bill and there are conflicting opinions about the bill being passed as a law. So how do we prepare for the inevitable loss of jobs if and when companies start to pack up and leave?

I can only imagine the panic in call center’s agents when they get their two weeks notices. There are, of course, other countries but the American companies would be a major loss to the call center Philippines industry.

The new government should formulate a back up plan to invite foreign investors to the Philippines so call center employees who would be lose their jobs can find employment. It’s also time to help support SME’s that could help employ some of the unemployed. Although employment is the traditional route, the government should initiate a small business loans program that will enable former employees to start their own businesses.

Call center jobs are great for providing employment to a mass number of people. It enables our citizens to stay at home instead of going to other countries and leaving their families. The anti-offshoring bi ll is undeniably a threat to the industry that’s why it’s always smarter to have a back up plan.

Learning, the Key to a Better Future

These past months, I have read and noticed the severe change that is happening in the Middle East as well as Africa with regards to their level of education.

I like the fact that despite the wars, famine and poverty they are experiencing, not to mention some cruel and shocking occurrences in their zones, they are not missing out on the development and advancement of education for their youth. Just this summer, around five learning institutions are going to finally experience elearning online.

It’s good that all those children regardless of their situations in life can now be provided with the proper education any normal kid would require. This gives me much hope that everyone in the world is without care with the situation of others. For those people who pushed through with their project in Iran, they may have already planted the seeds of a brighter tomorrow.

And it’s not just kids in Iran, young adolescents are now into computers and elearning online in general. I read that civil awareness was now a very hot topic because it was being promoted and discussed through e-courses. Although I still think that some dark mind may use this for their own cause and benefit, I do hope this means that most of the young men and women are going to be pulled away from the guns of their elders and into the intellectual and peaceful discussion of resolving matters.

It may sound naïve, but I believe that as long as one person has the capacity to stay calm while speaking his mind in a democratic manner, most of the arguments that we find so polarizing may actually be so trivial, like racism. People by nature are afraid of the things they can not understand or comprehend but, somehow, I still don’t get why people would degrade or even kill other people just because of their primary difference in melanin. Wouldn’t the world be a boring place if everyone was the same?

Education is the key. It’s a good thing that there are still people who are going out of their way just to teach children how to build their own future.

Every Elearning Company Needs Teamwork

Do you ever wonder why so my people emphasize the importance of teamwork in an organization like an elearning company? From our school years up to now, that is during our professional careers, teachers and managers keep insisting that everyone should work as a team to get things done. The reason behind this obsession is that the best values and work ethics are instilled in those who live by the code of teamwork.

An elearning company project team is comprised of a lot of individuals with varying personalities, skill sets, strengths, weaknesses and company roles. It is important that all of these people come together under one banner towards a common goal.

But why do we need so many people working together? This is because instructional design for electronic learning courses is not an easy feat. If there is only one person who is responsible for doing everything or if a group of people work separately despite having a shared goal, then expect less than mediocre work that’s useless to anyone who desires meaningful learning experiences. Appropriate delegation, commitment to the tasks at hand, collaboration, cooperation and communication with other team members are all part of a working equation that best describes a happy and fruitful company:

Your Job + My Job + Teamwork = Success

Each job is important for the whole project at hand. How can you produce an elearning course if there is no writer to write content, a graphic artist to design the aesthetics, or a programmer to create the code for the application? It is important that all of these roles function together so that the created output is consistent with the company vision, the principles of proper instructional design, and the needs of the learners of today. Every person must do his or her share, and collaborate with the other members of the team so that resources and time are used well to create a high quality elearning course which can equate to a surge of profits for the company.

Go Luxury Instead of Small Hotel for the Ultimate Romantic Getaway

Honeymoons are special because it is when a newly married couple gets to celebrate their blessed union privately and enjoy the warmth and giddiness that comes with romance and happiness. Although I agree that it doesn’t really matter how or where this celebration takes place, I still adamantly believe the overall experience can be amplified if the setting matches its beautiful intensity. I urge honeymooning couples to go all out and to not settle for anything less!

Barbados is an example of a perfect setting for honeymoons. There are a lot of accommodations there that are incredibly suited for couples who want to experience each other at the fullest. A Barbados small hotel may be a good choice, but trust me when I say to choose a luxury hotel because these establishments are pros when it comes to such things.

The Fairmont Royal Pavilion is exclusive to adults except during a few months in the summer. Its interior and exterior boast of style and opulence, and every room provides their guests with comfortable features and a balcony or terrace that grants access to spectacular views. The beach may not be as big as the others, but it is gorgeously scenic and enclosed, which contributes to the experience of utmost privacy.

However, the icing on the cake is the special level of service. You will find that every staff member is amiable, considerate, attentive and accommodating, and they are delightfully available in every nook and cranny! From beach butlers out on the beachfront, to servers in the dining area, guests practically do not have to lift a finger to do anything. Their goal is to pamper each guest silly in order to make them forget their troubles so that they can ultimately focus on relaxation and enjoyment.

A Barbados apartment hotel cannot compare to Fairmont Royal Pavilion luxury hotel when it comes to honeymoons. So go online, and check their website. I am confident that you will find yourself clicking away to reserve for your ultimate romantic getaway.

Noynoy Aquino for President – My Reaction

I remember when I first read that headline which included the phrase: Noynoy Aquino for President. I was kind of shocked. My first reaction though was disbelief. I did not really know if I would be happy or sad. As a fan of our former first female president, Corazon Aquino, and as a fan of Kris Aquino, it was something that a person should be proud of. However, I instantly felt that there was of course something wrong with the picture.

Noynoy for President. The question is, was Noynoy really the one who decided to run for president? Or was he just simply pressured to run by his family and by people who knew they could take advantage of situation of Cory’s recent death.

http://www.mindanao.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/AKP_NOYAQUINO_01.JPG

When Cory died, the whole country seemed to join in the morning. It seemed to me that we the people truly loved her as a mother figure to the nation. And of course, everyone knows how Noynoy’s father was such a great hero for the nation. He sacrificed his life in the interest of justice. He knew he was going to be killed if he came back to the Philippines, but he came back anyway. And this is the legacy that is left for Noynoy to uphold.

Yes, it does seem at first glance that Noynoy Aquino is simply riding on the name of his parents. But look at the times right now. We are a country run by the lowest scoundrels. It is deplorable. Noynoy is a quiet person. Surely the terrible position under the limelight, which his mother was forced to fill, was something that he did not want as well. But because of his name, he too was flung into the terrible responsibility of politics, just as Cory was. Noynoy takes after his mother just as Kris Aquino’s blatant mouth seems to take after her father’s. That’s the way I see it. And perhaps Noynoy is a good choice after all, instead of voting the millionaire who has his own C5 scandal.

Noynoy Aquino for President?

There are so many things that people can criticize about the fact that Noynoy is running for president. Noynoy Aquino for President, it has a nice ring to it does it not? It really sounds much like Ninoy Aquino for President. And of course, he is wearing his family colors. Yellow was the Edsa Revolutions’ color. And now, he is using this color in his campaign. Has he earned it? Not yet for sure. He seems to have not done much in fact. He does not even speak out in outrage against anything. No, he does not want that kind of attention. It seems to me that growing up with all that media attention to his father and his mother really made this man a little wary of such attention. After all, all that attention his father got from voicing out his righteous opposition against the corrupt tyrant is what got him killed. But of course, that is also the very thing that made him the hero that he is. Is Noynoy Aquino for president really the same as Ninoy Aquino for president? Are the two cut from the same cloth?

Time can also decide such a thing. And we can only know for sure after or rather if Noynoy wins the presidential election this year. But the other question remains. Is it worth it for us to vote for this untested person? Noynoy Aquino for president – is this really the best thing for the Philippines?

Here is a little something about the Father of Noynoy

I personally think that Noynoy might just be an okay bet. We have no proof of it, but we must have faith. We must have faith that this quiet and gentle person who was raised up by amazingly righteous parents seized this opportunity to continue the legacy of good governance which his family left. Noynoy Aquino for president sounds like a good bet to me.

Elements of an Ideal E-learning Environment

When I was at University a few years back, e-learning was introduced to the students via the CWTS (Community Welfare Training System) course, which is mandated in the educational system. It was still a new innovation and quite disorienting to majority of the students, including myself. I didn’t have a very good opinion of e-learning back then which was evident in my dismal test scores. It’s only until recently that I’ve reflected on the possible rationale behind my distaste since I am currently considering taking an online course. I had to do a little bit of research, of course, and I encountered a couple of articles that talked about e-learning. The article that caught my attention was a piece done on the establishment of an e-learning environment that’s conducive to teaching and learning.

The success of elearning depends on a lot of factors, one of them being the learning environment. Like in a traditional classroom setting, the best learning environments nurture excellent motivation, comprehension and increased efficiency in learners or students. There are a number of certain elements that need to be cohesively integrated in order to create an ideal e-learning environment. Such elements include the following: organizational or classroom culture, e-learning maturity and strategy, resources, technology, subject matter expertise, instructional design, user interface and support systems. Each element tackles separate entities that focus on specific aspects that can either lead to accomplishment or failure. The proper individual management and successful integration of all of these elements guarantee the successful implementation and utilization of e-learning whether it’s for a business venture or educational purposes.

As I try and recall the role of each element in my past e-learning experience, I realize that the mismanagement or lack of one or a couple of these elements contributed to my negative stand regarding the matter. It is thus valuable to consider that the e-learning environment affects learning in such a way that it gravely affects, or even determine, the student’s ability to comprehend and internalize given information from the provided content which is highly dependent on quality, technology, delivery and accessibility.

Overcoming Language Barriers with E-learning Tools

It is such a relief that there is an internationally recognized official language for communicating in education, business, science and government. The global use of English has saved mankind from the trouble of deciphering sign language and hassling nonverbal communication because of the diversity of languages and dialects in the world. People are assured that there is less misinterpretation and misunderstanding in important discourses and deals.

However, despite the recognition of English and its use in different countries, there are still a lot of people who are limited by their lack of proficiency in the language, which is quite a disadvantage because it is an accepted reality that having mastery of English can help pave the way towards success.

Overcoming barriers is really a difficult challenge. There are some people who find it difficult to adjust to new languages because of the strength of their accents and the great differences with how words are used, sentences structured, and nonverbal cues interpreted. This hindrance actually posed as a huge problem in education because how can you teach your language to person who has no clue what you are saying?

It’s a good thing that there are elearning tools that put E-learning ahead in the industry of education because of the availability and accessibility of language learning tools online. These tools, such as LessonWriter and Digital Dialects, can help students supplement their learning with translation programs and so on. Different companies and organizations are not limited to students who mainly speak English, because through these applications, foreign students who are unfamiliar or not proficient in English can translate the content material and in turn, learn their lessons.

E-learning tools are becoming more and more efficient and specific as they address the different needs of their students, both locally and internationally. The world of education has been revolutionized, opening its doors to diversity.

On Noynoy Aquino and the Assassination Rumor

Since is just about that time in the Philippine season, we are once again about to ask ourselves just who should we vote now that the election is nearing. At the moment, the leading candidates are Noynoy Aquino and Manny Villar. But according to the most recent surveys, it is Noynoy Aquino who is leading the race.

Right now, there is a big a rumor about the possible and likely assassination plot against Noynoy this is probably spread out by Noynoy’s camp because the obvious image or idea this evokes will be the same outcry and anger that the united Filipino people into revolt once before.

As the rumor goes, this assassination plot is supposed to create the way for another martial law era that will enable the current president Arroyo to stay in power by permanently and indefinitely delaying the coming presidential elections. This will also give her, as the rumor goes, a chance to increase her popularity and power (though obviously not because the Filipino people hate being put under martial law ever since Marcos did it).

The rumor is starting to spread into the middle tiers of Philippine society. And indeed it cannot simply be dismissed because there are real solid reasons why this assassination may take place. There is now a growing concern for the safety of Noynoy Aquino through the election days.
